Mastering Composition and Design in Still Life

Join me for a two-day fine art workshop at my farm, focusing on composition and design in still-life painting. Whether you're a seasoned artist seeking to refine your skills or a beginner eager to dive into the world of composition, this workshop is tailored to elevate your artistic abilities. Discover the foundational principles of fine art composition and create visually stunning and emotionally resonant artwork.

Students will explore different elements of composition, such as balancing large shapes, arranging a pleasing value structure, color harmony, and understanding how these elements contribute to the overall design of their artwork. Additionally, students will receive personalized guidance and feedback from me in a supportive learning environment. By the end of the workshop, students will have developed a deeper understanding of composition and design principles through still-life painting, enabling them to create more visually captivating and impactful pieces of art that can be applied to all genres of art.

After each day's lecture, I will paint a still-life oil demo and explain how I apply composition and design principles to my painting. After the demo, students will set up their own still life to paint from, and I will spend some one-on-one time with each student and come back to each student several times as needed.
All mediums are welcome, but I will use oils during the workshop. If you are interested in my supply list for oil painting, I can provide that. Otherwise, bring whatever supplies you have for your medium of choice. Composition and design don't require a lot of supplies to learn, and they can be applied to any medium, even simply pencil and paper.

One very helpful tool I ask all my students to bring with them is a viewfinder. Any viewfinder will work fine, but the "Fairview Finder" by Steve Puttrich is the best one you can find, and I highly recommend it! I will have some Fairview Finders available at the workshop, or you can find them here: https://www.fairviewfinder.com/store/p/the-fairview-finder-pre-orders

Payment is due at registration, but I understand that life doesn't always go as planned. If you need to cancel, you will receive a full refund of your workshop fee.
